In early December, we first heard the news. Former First Lady, Secretary of State, and now presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was going to be in Fort Dodge, IA! This was something my sister and I didn't want to miss. Yes, we both personally have strong conservative views, but Mrs. Clinton was the only remaining Democrat we had left to see. So, my family and I made the 70 mile journey, and actually found the meeting to be quite informative. Hillary Rodham Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in a politically conservative household. At the age of 17, she volunteered in 1964 Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater's campaign. In her first year of attending Wellesley College, she served as the president of the Wellesley Young Republicans! But then in '68, she left the Republican party for good. The young Hillary Rodham entered Yale Law School, and before long she had a job at a law firm. At the age of 28, she married Bill Clinton; the couple had one daughter together, Chelsea. Mrs. Clinton became the First Lady of Arkansas, and then in 1993, she became the First Lady of the United States. After her husband finished his 2 terms in office, Mrs. Clinton was elected to the Senate; later she became the U.S. Secretary of State. On April 12, 2015, Clinton formally announced her candidacy for the presidency.
Clinton supports providing a pathway to citizenship for the undocumented immigrants in our country, but she believes the ones who have committed crimes should be deported. She also would like to welcome all 65,000 Syrian refugees into our country. She strongly supports abortion; she formerly supported traditional marriage, but now she has come out strongly in support of the opposite. Mrs. Clinton feels that President Obama has been doing a wonderful job as our president. If elected, she would do her best to continue moving the country in an even more “progressive” direction. In my opinion, that is not what we need. Fun Fact: At the age of 22, Hillary worked for a short time at a cannery in Alaska, sliming salmon.
