I have had the privilege of meeting Dr. Ben Carson twice—once only briefly at a book signing, and once at a town hall meeting. I am also currently reading a book about him. Dr. Carson has an interesting life story that has inspired many. Carson was born in 1951 in Detroit Michigan. His mother raised him and his brother all by herself. His family was very poor. As a young boy, he often got into trouble, and he had problems with controlling his anger. But then he started reading a Bible, and his life was changed. Eventually he managed to make his way up until finally he was able to attend Yale University. After graduating from a medical school he became a successful neurosurgeon, completing many extraordinary operations. He retired from this in 2013. That same year he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast in front of President Obama and many others. He boldly addressed the great challenges America faces of moral decay and fiscal irresponsibility. On May 4, two years later, he announced his run for the presidency of the United States! Carson is in favor of a flat tax. He is in favor of raising the minimum wage, indexing it with inflation. He believes that illegal immigrants should be able to register as guest workers, and have a pathway to apply to live in this country permanently. He believes abortion should be outlawed in all circumstances. He supports traditional marriage. I personally think that it would be great to have a fellow Carson elected to the White House! Fun Fact: Carson was an expert marksman in high school!
