According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary the word control means to exercise restraining or directing influence over; to have power or rule over. The Bible indicates that either God is in control or the devil is in control. First John 3:8 tells us Jesus lived, died and was resurrected to destroy the works of the devil in our lives. It also states plainly that he that commits sin is of the devil. In the book of Romans we read that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. When you sin, the devil made you do it, literally! Jesus came to take away the sin of the world, and whosoever will believe will receive not only the forgiveness of sin but also freedom from sin. Ephesians 2 tells us about this grace He has bestowed upon us through His quickening powers.
And you hath he quickened,
who were dead in trespasses and sins:
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind;
and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God who is rich in mercy,
for his great love wherewith he loved us,
. Even when we were dead in sins,
hath quickened us together with Christ,
(by grace ye are saved;)
Jesus gave us power to be born again. He gave us power to live a life free from sin, a life full of righteousness, a life with God in control. The Bible encourages us who are born of God to study to show ourselves approved of God, a work man that needs not to be ashamed. It encourages us to acknowledge Him in all our ways that He may direct our paths. If we are born of God, God is our Father, and as Father, He is the head of the house. The Bible tells us that we are the temple or the house of the Holy Ghost. We are to resist the devil and follow after our Lord Jesus.
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind,
be sober,
and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
As obedient children,
not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
But as he which hath called you is holy,
so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Because it is written,
Be ye holy;
for I am holy.
When God has control of our lives we have peace in our souls even when there is trouble all around. When we are in obedience to Him we can count on Him to see us through this life. I know what it was to have the devil in control of my life. He was out to kill and destroy all that was decent and good. He invades and makes you a slave; then he laughs at you and makes you the fool. He stomps on you and spits you out.
God is now my shepherd. He tenderly cares for me. He restores and makes new my soul. Praise God! Jesus is in control!
